Valerie Solanas was an American radical feminist writer and activist who gained notoriety for her attempted murder of artist and pop culture figure Andy Warhol in 1968. Prior to the shooting, Solanas was a key figure in the New York City counterculture scene, known for her radical feminist writings and outspoken criticism of men. After serving prison time for the attempted murder, Solanas led a largely reclusive life until her death in 1988.
